COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:
- Discussed Advising Committee report from Faculty Senate:
- There is a lot of emphasis on advising for freshman. It would be nice to see more advising issues addressed for upperclassmen too.
- The report recommends advising should be considered teaching for faculty instead of service because service is not rewarded as equitably as teaching. We agree with this.
- We agree with the recommendation that there should be increased training and incentives for advisors.
- We agree with the recommendations for communication for advising.
- We support the committee’s recommendation for new messaging technology to communicate with advisors.
