COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

  • Ellery Waterfire
      • Verify that all organizations and companies have been informed of the cancellation of the event
  • Recap of why it was cancelled
  • MCC
    • Liaison: Speak with director of MCC (Melvin Wade) as often as you like, I spoke with him every other week. Speak about what MCC is planning, what they’re frustrated/currently unhappy with. Basically if you want to understand MCC and understand their plights. All about how much you put in, pivotal part of our committee.
    • Currently wants office space
    • Promote awareness and bridging gap between MCC organizations
      • PINK Walk on the April 17th: Similar to Relay for Life (see attached flier)
    • Ideas for new term:
      • Mandatory office hour at MCC event for all senators
      • Liaison Committee between MCC and Senate?
  • Solomon: Going to Diversity awards, creating relationship with Melvin (MCC), still trying to meet with Annie (LGBTQ)
  • Bathroom Policy
    • Change wording in student handbook to “bathroom you most associate yourself with”
    • Sim: The bathroom policy is currently unclear about who can go to what bathroom resulting in issues for people who identify with the opposite sex or gender.
    • Other options: unisex bathrooms
  • Ace of Cakes
    • How to make the event bigger?
    • Issues/ Things to Change:
      • No groups by speakers
      • Musicians Guild should be there to run their equipment
      • Change location to ballroom
      • Should the event generate money for our committee or support a cause? (Money jars to vote for a cake or only give back half of the deposit?)
      • Change rubric (Should portability be a part of it?)
      • Keep Nonni, but less judges
      • How to notify judges when groups are finished?
      • More candy (m&ms) and food coloring
  • Therapy Dogs: April 29, 2013 11-2 approx.
    • Pen on the quad for approximately 3 hours, take donations
    • Dogs can be brought in free of charge
    • Must contact Lands and Ground, Risk management, security
    • Poop Committee: Joey Maynard
    • Advertise event as put on through senate, enlist their help Potential Future Events
    • Taste of URI- groups bring food to represent them/ their cultures
    • Dancing With the Stars
    • Lip Dub: One shot music video, going throughout campus
    • Giant Snow Globe in the winter, photo ops
    • Lantern Fire: decorate lanterns to represent groups
    • Maze on the Quad (Portable Walls, Could be bonding for University groups)

  • Assignments:
    • Uy: Speaking to vendors from Ellery Waterfire
    • Sim: Find posters addressing differences from other universities to use as inspiration for poster programs
    • Maynard: Anne at Risk Management and talk to Kim for security in regards to Therapy Dogs
    • Meehan: Lands and Grounds for Therapy Dogs
