ACADEMIC COMMITTEE MINUTES DATE 10/16/18

DISCUSSION:
TOPIC 1: Freenters
- Phone call interview with Johnny
- Use our existing printers, their software can comply with our printers
- Every four pages would be an advertisement, or a coupon/deal for local businesses
- We cannot sign off on it we can only support it with a resolution bill
- Only do black and white, no color printing
- Want to have an optional service to pay with your ram account or print for free with adds
- There is no maintenance or implementation fee
- “no fees coming to URI”
- Willing to do a trial…one year contract
- Doing this at 23 other universities including the University of Chicago and University of Boston
- Want to contact the other colleges to see from their perspective about how this works
- Use a service called print release to work towards reforestation
- Duplex customization so that you can choose to either do single side or double sided paper
- School can pick what kind of advertisements they want or don’t want
- We want to work with the library or the union first before we advertise it to the different colleges
TOPIC 2: Liaisons
- Part of student senate is working with the different elements of the school like different committees like the library, faculty senate, honor program, university calendar committee etc.
- Hand out a sign-up sheet during general senate
TOPIC 3: Academic Intro
- Academic calendar, bookstore, library, professors, exams, etc.
- Getting word out about the ombuds
- We take academic complaints
- Final exam rights
- Build your own major program
- Affordable course materials
- Donations for school supplies
TOPIC 4: Meeting with the Provost
- Johnny is meeting with the provost on 30th of October
- Going to talk about election day
- Want to focus on goals and plans for the future
- Some people have finals on Saturday
- Professors don’t communicate course materials well enough
- Johnny will email Paul Whitney about legislations that professors are required to inform the books store of the course materials
- Bookstore is having a 5 dollar book sale where all the old books you can fit into a bag for 5 dollars
