Executive 11-4-2009

Executive Meeting November 4, 2009

Attendance: Bedard, Petit, Coates, Prata, Holland, Simon, Boiteau, Shah, Clarke, Harrington, Sinapi

Call to Order: 5:22 p.m.

I. Finance

  • Granted money to some groups
  • Men’s crew team came, looking to buy a new boat, boats are getting old, last one purchased in 2001, costs about $40,000, going to keep old and use as training boats, they have a group of alumni who are going to match whatever we give them. They have to fund themselves to keep going AND to pay for some of their boats (if we decide to grant some). Possibly give them $20,000 and ask them to raise the rest. Set a benchmark for them to raise money by. A boat is built new every time and it takes a few months to build. They are kind of raising $40,000 because of the alumni donation. Right now they have $14,000. Allen’s going to look into it more.

II. Academic

  • Statistics from advising survey that Temi gave in the nursing dept. He’s putting that info together now.
  • Provost advisory council is in a half hour. Temi is going.
  • 2 academic complaints, met with OMBUD today
  • Two broken USA today kiosks
  • ProJo going out like crazy
  • Met with academic standards and calendars, got them to agree to make it so that they can’t change the syllabus without approval from chair after the drop date.
  • Proposal to have classes on veteran’s day and not day before Thanksgiving? Chip said because every other year we have an election day off and veteran’s day off the next week. See what full Senate thinks.
  • How many reading days should we have?
  • Allen and David are both wearing maroon shirts. How odd.
  • Things gettin heated up in hea.
  • Anthony is once again doing his Chinese homework. Allen and Vidhi are shouting. Dave is playing with a multicolored ball. Juelia is playing on her computer. Steve looks bored. Katherine is concerned for the freshmen.
  • Should we have professors give evaluations to students halfway through semester so that they can change instruction if they are not being effective.

o   Make all college reps send emails to departments with this idea

  • The brand of tampons I use has cheesy inspirational sayings on the wrappers such as “the sky is the limit” and stuff like that. Today, I noticed one that said “Focus on the positive, at least now you know you’re not pregnant.” Thanks Playtex Sport, periods don’t seem so bad anymore. MLIA

III. SOARC

  • Voting on re-rec tonight, NSBE coming to argue, underwater hockey coming to argue, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship also arguing. The Mob is going from R to A.
  • Four bills on the floor to vote on next week
  • We can recognize underwater hockey but they cannot play or practice or anything until we resolve the liability. It’s in progress.

IV. Campus

  • Allen and David are both wearing maroon shirts and now just went to the bathroom together. There’s some funky business going on here.
