Slam Poetry
- Slam Poetry is a performance poetry
- Activities
- Shows at the Coffee House
- Slams as fundraisers
- Bring in professionals
- Member attendance
- 24 people
o 10 people at the first meeting
o 16 people from Student Orgs Fairs and 8 people emailed from cigar
o P: Sounds like a great group to have 24 people sign up for the first meeting
- Election of Executives
- Not everyone was there so it was done by ballots
o P: should be done in protocol – announce nominations and let it sit on the floor for a week
o P: We can’t vote on you since you didn’t have formal elections
o W: set up a consistent meeting time so it can be easier on the members
- Working with Departments?
- Not really working with the English department
o Did ask some professors to spread the word but no real work with the English department
URI Breakers
- Intro
- Break dancing club
- Learn the real history of Break dancing and the culture
- Teach basic skills of break dancing
- Activities
- Dances and performances
- Collaborating with groups such as
- Members
- 10 active members
- Elections
- Elections were had but not by protocol
o P: We will vote on recognizing Breakers once they do elections
o W: Open up nominations at the next meeting and vote next week
- Breakers: We are the three people that are really involved
o P: that’s fine, just do the elections compliant with the bylaws
- P: Used to have a Break dancing club that fell off the face of the earth so we like to keep an eye on groups that dissolve.
- Breakers:
- Advertising: Can we just post anywhere?
o P: Nope, do not do that. There are guidelines.
o S: Here are the forms that talk about what you can do. This is the Master advertising list
o P: whoa, do you normally carry that stuff around?
o S: What do you think I am? I’m a super senator. J
- g.Safety:
- We have had many years’ experience break dancing but no trained safety
- P: you may want to get risk management waivers
o P: It’s not the activity that’s actually dangerous, it’s the tricks
- P: I’ll email Risk management and get back to you
Safety Waivers
- We used to not be so crazy over waivers until 2 years ago
- Not all groups need waivers and while it would be good to have them, they’re not required for all groups.
- Alima and eXposure don’t need waivers but Breakers may want them.
Re-Recognition
- Blue: in paper not yet scanned
- Model Constitutions
- Decent number of groups that have submitted paperwork haven’t submitted model constitutions
o We’ll have the presidents and treasurers sign anyway and then get the model constitutions
- W: we should just have a big meeting
- E: it’s hard since members have schedules and W & B have Finance
- W: we just need quorum
- E: send me your schedules and perhaps we can find another time to meet
- Chair absence
- E: I won’t be there next next week (Oct 22) so we need to get and have everything done ASAP.
o Blanchette knows so she’ll be running the meeting
- Student Athletic Advisory Committee
- Contact person isn’t in contact with group anymore
- No rerec paperwork from them
- W: they should have a compact since they aren’t selective but they really are.
- Category Changes
- Sign Language isn’t getting funding from departments or anything
- Absence from President’s meeting
- Stewart and Pishdadian are planning a separate meeting for those not that.
Improvements
- We should put all the re-rec paperwork in one link
- Go from PDF to Google Forms or something
o Needs to be printable
- Starting clubs
- We need to outline how to start a club better
o Include protocol for proper elections
