COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

 

• Report on the Ordinance Survey
  • Reviewed the Narragansett Ordinance Executive Report
  • Chairman Donnelly and Senator Lawrence will be meeting with VP Kathy Collins on Friday 12/9 @ 1pm
  • Notable findings and statistics –
    • only 12.9% of respondents who are Narragansett Residents stated that student renters “degrade their quality of life”
    • URI does not offer enough support to help students find housing, on or off campus
  • Solutions developed by this committee
    • Create an HRL/Commuter Affairs advisory committee for the purpose of creating a program which aids students in finding suitable off campus housing
    • Create a direct line of contact between rental companies and URI
    • Create a quiz about renter rights and regulations which would need to  be completed by students before they rent
      • This quiz could be made mandatory by URI by placing a hold on the student’s account/ their ability to register for classes
