For the Future

We are here to help children in Africa receive an education they are not able to receive. We want to use this money to help these students middle schoolers and high schoolers. The money that we have fundraised is not enough for these children. The money would aid in tuition and school supplies.

Buck: The money for student activities tax cannot be given to Africa to support these children. The purpose of the student activities tax is to enrich the life on campus.

Senate cannot fund philanthropic in nature.

Powerlifting

Requesting flights down to San Antonio for nationals this year. They are sending a full roster of 24 people. The late notice is due to an extreme drop in expenses in exchange for an immediate payment without a down payment. Dues for the first semester are $80. All of the lifters are on the same flight. The group has grown a lot from their original amount and did well last year at nationals in Providence.Total Request is 4,431.20. We are proposing $3,500.

Approved (8-0-0)

Archery

Group just got approved last semester and is having a hard time getting off the ground. Archery tag is 70% of what they are asking for. It is a nerf set for archery and helps teach others without anyone getting hurt. They hope to use this money to help them bring some money. They have 24 members. They must go to a shooting range they cannot shoot on campus due to liability. These bows and arrows are somewhat specific to body. They have not done any fundraising but plan to start ideas. They are already looking at places to hold them. The bows tend to last for 8 years if kept well. The majority of the group is younger (freshman and sophomore) The nerf competition would take place. Buck: “I think we are going to hold off on the actual weapons until they can be safely and securely stored. I like the idea of however, it would be nice to see some tangible initiative on fundraising and dues.”

Too much uncertainty regarding the storage of the requested equipment was the general concern of the committee, so no vote was made.

Alpine Racing Team

The Alpine Racing Team is requesting two separate category transfers for the single purpose of expanding their 236 line for Registration in order to purchase tickets for an upcoming trip. They are looking forward to sending 34 (that is, every one of their members) to this event. The first Category Transfer request is to move $650 from their 700 Line (their Travel/Lodging Line) to their 236 Line (their Registration Line). The second Category Transfer request is to move $350 from their 235 Line (their Insurance/Taxes Line) to their 236 Line (their Registration Line). The Alpine Racing Team originally requested a Category Transfer to grow their Travel and Lodging Line, and was approved. Now that there is too much money allocated to other accounts, including their Travel and Lodging, which cannot pay for the tickets of their upcoming event, this new Category Transfer would transfer money into the Line that can actually help them make these payments. Mattern: “We should not want to refuse this transfer as some sort of penalty against the Racing Team.” C. Buck made the motion to transfer the monies into the desired accounts as referenced earlier.

1st Category Transfer (700 to 236) Approved (7-0-1)

2nd Category Transfer (235 to 236) Approved (7-0-1)

The Finance Committee is going through their 1st round of budgeting, seeing what clubs have submitted recently for their accounts, reviewing their budget vs actuals, and determining what is best for the Senate, that is determining what can be saved, and ultimately, working in the interests of Student Organizations.
