About Us

Mission

Student Senate is made up of undergraduate students elected by the student body to provide the official voice through which student opinion may be expressed, to provide means for responsible and effective participation in the organization of Student Affairs, and to investigate student problems and take appropriate action. General Senate meetings are held weekly on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Senate Chambers (Room 300) in the Memorial Union building.  Meetings are open and anyone is welcome.

Who are we?

We are the official representative voice of the on & off-campus undergraduate student body of the University of Rhode Island. Students annually elect our Senator representatives.

What is our purpose?

As a diverse group of Student Senators, our purpose is to allow the general student opinion to be expressed. We assist students who live on & off campus by creating necessary bridges between our Undergraduates and Academic Deans, faculty members, local landlords, etc.

We encourage the development of responsible student participation in the overall policy and decision-making process of the university community. In order to enhance the quality and scope of education at the University, we foster an awareness of the student’s role in the academic community.

What do we do?

We participate in University and Faculty committees to provide means for responsible and effective student participation in the organization of student affairs. We establish, recognize, and promote education, social, and cultural activities for the enhancement of student life. We recognize & support student organizations on campus and allocate Student Activities Tax to offer unique activities to our students, put together by our recognized organizations.

Please feel free to read our Student Senate Constitution and Student Senate By-Laws that we abide by.
