OER
- A lunch is taking place on October 4th from 11:30am-12:30pm, people can still sign up
- It is a way to save students money
- Talk to your Dean about it, push for OER
Academic Summit Committee
- Every winter they have an Academic Summit
- It discusses ways to change the world of Academics
- Innovation and Adaptability is the theme
- Anyone can do it, not just senator
- Contact Chairman Temple to do it
- They meet once a month and are accommodating with people’s schedules
- The committee itself will focus more on the theme
- if it is future planning or a pitch contest
Starfish
- Chairman Temple emailed Rob Marshall in regards to Starfish
- He might come to committee or come to public form
- They want to mainstream it
Classes
- The problem of classes that involve majors however because they are new they are not being counted toward the major
- Marine Pollution does not count towards a Marine Bio major
- Faculty urging students to take “optional classes” without letting them know that it is not going towards their major
- Why can’t Marine Bio majors take one extra class for a Chem minor
Other Possible Projects to Take on
- Individualistic/adaptive majors
- Creating your own major and design it
- Brown does it
- UMASS Amherst does it
- UCONN does it
- They already do it with minors here
- Some kind of checks and balance would be needed
- Student Employment
- Creating a student employment committee in faculty senate
- Do away with the 20 Hours a week rule
- RAs already do more than that
- Creating employment center
- Maybe in the Union or in Roosevelt
Extra: Committee members should do research how other colleges have a individualistic/adaptive major
