Non-Committee: Senator Marotta

DISCUSSION:

TOPIC 1: International Student Liaison

  • Senator Bhat wants to create an international student liaison position to raise awareness on international student issues
  • She wishes to fill this position

TOPIC 2: Investigating the Dorm Bathroom

  • Senator Bhat heard that all of the showers have curtains and not lockable doors which have privacy and safety issues

TOPIC 3: Pool Tables in the Union

  • They need new poles
  • They need new felt on the tables

TOPIC 4: Sustainability

  • No recycling in dorms
  • We have seen custodians dumping recycling bins in the same bins as the trash while taking it out
  • Senator Marotta got more people to use reusable water bottles by striking the suggestion of buying a case of water from the freshmen first night list of recommended items

TOPIC 5: Bus Routes

  • We would like to get shelters put up at popular bus stops so that students don’t have to stay in inclement weather
  • The buses are not well spaced out and the schedules are hard to follow so two buses will be back to back and then there will not be another bus for 30 minutes
  • We are suggesting better routes and buses that go both ways

TOPIC 6: Gateway and Grad Village

  • Need a blue light and more lights in general

TOPIC 7: Route 138

  • Need crosswalks
  • Need side walks
  • Needs streetlights

TOPIC 8: Parking

  • No one is contacting the parking email, so we need to advertise our email, so we can help more people
  • DOC Amand has some recommendations about parking
    • 70-minute parking spots closer to classes for students with one class
    • Having designated parking spots in staff parking lots for student workers during their shifts
  • Parking lot across from Green Hall is never full because it is “premium parking” that staff have to pay $400 to use
  • There will be no more freshman parking next year
    • There are exemptions for people who work off campus

TOPIC 9: Brookside

  • So residents want to know if Brookside will open on time to know if they
