COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:
- URI Take Back the Week: Sexual Assault Awareness (04/24/17-04/28/17)
The Committee On Campus Affairs briefly discussed the plan for the Sexual Assault Awareness Week being held from the 24th of April to the 28th of April. This week-long event is hosted by URI Peers Learning Educating And Supporting Everyone (P.L.E.A.S.E.) & the URI Student Senate.
Most of what was on the flyer that P.L.E.A.S.E. made can be found on here and then some other information discussed by the committee.
Here is the general plan as it stands:
–Monday: Peer Pong (FREE PRIZES) will be the first event of Monday which will happen in front of the Memorial Union from 10 AM to 2 PM. Masculinity Monday will be an all-day theme that culminates in the screening of the film “The Mask You Live In”. The film will begin at 4 PM in Atrium 2 of the Memorial Union and will end with a discussion. This event will end at 6 PM. URI P.L.E.A.S.E. and the Student Senate will be working in collaboration with URI Brothers On a New Direction (B.O.N.D.), and may be collaborating with the Interfraternity Council (I.F.C.).
–Tuesday: ConsentTEA (Tea and Snacks) is being held in the Multi-Cultural Student Center in the Hardge Forum from 11 AM to 2 PM.
–Wednesday: Denim Day (Free Hot Dogs!) is being held in front of the Memorial Union from 10 AM to 2 PM.
–Thursday: Take Back the Night is three events in one. There is going to be a play entitled “We Believe You” which is going to be shown in the Quinn Auditorium from 6 PM to 7 PM. A March is also being held which meets on the Quadrangle at 7 PM and finishes at 8 PM. And finally, a Silent Vigil is also being held on the Quadrangle which meets there at 8 PM and finishes at 9 PM.
–Friday: The Feminist Art Exhibit, where refreshments will be served!, will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Gender and Sexuality Center.
The D.O.C. is still organizing photographs with the Women’s Centers’ Own Hannah Woodhouse. The time and place are still to be determined.
