DISCUSSION: 

What: Bystander Awareness training When​: November 15th at 7:00 PM WHere: ​Caffee 271

  • Training mission is to provide education and awareness regarding sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking as well as to promote active bystanders in order to prevent these crimes.
  • This training will be facilitated by Keith Labelle, who is a Supervisor of the Bystander Intervention Program and the URi-STANDers at URI.

❏ This training is mandatory for general senators unless legit excuse is presented to appropriate person.

❏ We are planning on Having an open forum afterwards

What: Screening Hunting grounds movie

  • In the middle of November
  • ‘’The film follows the stories of a handful of undergraduate survivors and their cases of ​sexual assault​, as well as the testimony from faculty, students and many of the victim’s families.’’

What: Slay the Polls

WHEN: Thursday November 1, 2018 at 7

Where: 193 Coffeehouse

  • Cultural Affairs committee is Co- Sponsoring with  ACLU to host a non-partisan celebration of American right to vote.’
  • Shanna Pearson-Merkowitz who is a professor here at URI will attend the event as well as speaking about the importance of Voting.

What: New programs ❏ Rwandan genocide remembrance day

  • Tutsi Genocide Memorial Day every 7 April is a day dedicated to the memory of some 500,000 to 1 million Rwandans who were butchered mercilessly during the genocide of 1994.
  • Planning on candle lighting during the event, moments of silence for the victims, speeches, exhibits, conferences all dedicated to the remembrance of those who died.
  • This is a tool to help people to never forget.

❏ Looking to work with Multicultural center, Africana studies Department, Sawa and other Organizations such as The center for the Jewish life on campus which hosts Holocaust Memorial Vigil in the middle of April

What: Arabic awareness 

  • Looking to CO-Sponsor Arabic awareness
  • Teach people Arabic cultural, food and more
