CULTURAL COMMITTEE MINUTES September 12, 2018

DISCUSSION:
- A vice-chair is needed, if you are interested contact Chairperson Kohl
- Due to rain the Suicide Awareness day has been moved to next wednesday
- Sign-up sheet will be going out in general
- It is extremely important to sign up, not only because of participation is important but also it shows the importance of the topic
- Fall Fest is coming up, October 10th
- Pumpkins and apples
- Looking to add an element of diversity
- Could we do a can drive or a clothing
- Anything with food contact Rhody Outpost
- Possibly make it into a competition between the colleges and programs
- Problem with clothing drives with people stealing and the limited amount of extra clothes for those that are out of state
- Talking with other organizations?
- Maybe having this kind of drive later in the semester and using Fall Fest as a way to publicize it
- Suggestion box at Fall Fest for the Cultural Committee
- Working with other committees to doing a large event at the end of the semester about giving resources
- September 26th is the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Day
- Original idea was to obtain drunk goggles from Health Services but they do not want to loan them out to students
- Police were contacted about getting some drunk goggles, waiting to hear back
- Backup plans:
- Dizzy bat
- Simulate the importance of designated driving by having a non-blindfolded person directing blindfolded people through an obstacle course
- Involving other organizations
- Flow
- Trivia
- Solo cup games (marking the bottom of cups to symbolize the dangers of drinking)
- Original idea was to obtain drunk goggles from Health Services but they do not want to loan them out to students
- Chairperson Kohl spoke with George Gallien, Director of Multicultural Student Services Center
- Creating a program about student led art show in the ballroom
- Utilizing the Diversity Cafe

- Overnight retreat with Senate
- Possibly bringing in other organizations to bond with them
- Sawa is having a meeting Monday 7:00 pm, Senator Ndayishimiye recommends being involved with not only them but the other organization
