– SANKOFA can’t reserve space technically but already have space given to them
– SOARC has no ability to take this away
– Will reinforce By-Laws rules that groups need to be present at meetings
Cultural:
– Liaisons are having meetings this month
– Working on getting a liaison for MUSIC (currently it’s Patterson)
– Spirit of Giving is starting up; will be passing envelope around at meetings for collections
Finance:
– A Capella Funding
– Either pay groups based on concerts so they can figure out programming and arrangements
– Or give them money as a start up capital and allow them to use their Recruitment Line to fund their arrangements.
– They have to fund arrangements themselves from then on out
– Prefer this method
– Talked to the Cigar
– Need to figure out what to do with the truck; replace it, get rid of it?
– Needs new tires as well
– CSIC:
– Thinking about hiring a part-time trainer to be shared by Varsity and Club Sports
– Trainer would also be accessible to Fencing and other groups we oversee
– Hockey is the only group that has a trainer because they raise money
– Need to figure out how to organize sports group because there is no benefit to them to take on new benefits
– Taking in more groups decreases available money for other groups, since CSIC doesn’t get more money for acquiring more groups
– Either provide them more money for taking on more groups, or the money that would go to the individual sports group through Senate should go to CSIC
– We should do a Referendum and an Opinion Bill saying that Student Senate would approve the amount of Student Fees going towards CSIC
– Should be done by Exec, not Finance
– Should there be an increase in Student Activities Tax?
– $88 per student and allows every group to put on big events
– CSIC handles all the groups and doesn’t get any change in funding no matter what they do; while SEC gets an increase in funding as needed for programs
– SEC doesn’t have a budget, they just get a blank check
– Should do it as CSIC does
– SEC gets more than CSIC and they can come in and request however much they need
– Other groups like EMA don’t have the opportunity to put on big events
– SEC can ask for more money and then charge more for concerts
– CSIC doesn’t have this ability to ask for money
