Sailing
• Attended: Head coach, head of campus rec, coordinator of sailing and facilities, treasurer of sailing club and future president, current captain, current VP, and other co-captain
• Hoping to start a partnership between themselves and senate
• 38 new sailboats
• Infancy stages of launching a fundraising campaign; seeking a partnership with senate for a complete and significant overhaul which hasn’t been performed since 1989-1992
• Sailing club started in 1935
• From the 80’s to the 2000s URI has attended 11 world championships in France, and in 1990 they won; only US college team to do this
• 2 seasons: Fall and Spring
• Practice 4 days a week
• Academic classes utilize the sailing center—around 40-50 students taking those classes
• Summer rec program is open to community members and students
• Needs new boats because they need modern equipment in facilities—leads to talent for students coming in
• Competing against Brown, Salve, and Roger Williams
• The cost of this overhaul will not exceed $350,000
• 38 new boats: 18 competitive FJs, 12 club boats, and 8 shared boats (420s)
• Possibility of selling the boats they already have [window]
• Strong alumni network
• Hoping for a 50/50 match on funds
• Exec feeling thermometer: $300,000 raised by the URI Sailing and we will aim to give $30,000
