Boiteau, Coates, Cologna, MacKinnon, Messineo, Pezza, Prata, Rodrigues, Segal, Sinapi

Campus

Sinapi: Plains road lot fills up quick. Closed road behind browning during bus hours. Car sharing, hertz agreed to drop start up fee.

Coates: got call from presidents office. Call from enterprise, thought contract was under review with lawyer. Tried to con URI.

Sinapi: Overall campus map, need a list of what we want on it.

Coates: Meeting September 21st car sharing and campus projects. Lighting field. Try and have lights up before next fall.

Finance

Boiteau: Bill on floor tonight to redo finance handbook. Immediate consideration. Last year group tried to change stipends themselves so changing that in handbook so they can’t. If group isn’t recognized anymore money remains in 900 account for 2 years then goes to activity tax if not rerecognized. Other bill for outing club event. Nominated K Stew as vice chair.

Coates: Vote. Congrats K Stew

Boiteau: Computer tech last year graduated, need to hire new. Kim drew up contract. Somebody in mind. Draw up SEC contract to limit them to a certain amount of shows in Ryan Center. Thinking about meeting with SEC and allowing them family weekend in Ryan Center and 1 event in spring and one in fall.

Coates: Kid Cudi sold out first day so we should wait.

Boiteau: Anybody at meeting has open budget. If people didn’t and didn’t sign cards budget is frozen until next meeting.

Academic

Cologna; Still working on Pro Jo. Thought money was set aside but not so I have to draft bill for next finance meeting. Another huge thing is research on renting books out of bookstore but then find out next day bookstore is doing it next semester. Probably going to draft bill saying we’re in favor. Mandatory syllabus skeleton. Make a note if you want to add anything.

Coates: Last night learned new requirement for syllabus. There is a statement against racist bias. Academic plan came JCAP with 3 subcommittees. JCAP is joining committee on academic planning. URI 5 year plan for academic.

Cologna: Committee going through all the reports, summarizing, making another report so Coates knows what to say at JCAP meeting. Next one is in 2 weeks. Last thing is talked to ideas committee, satisfied to know 55% was response, they wanted 65% so they’re going with written. Feel like we need to say something.

Coates: Most students would rather take them in class though.

Cologna: Wants to move towards smart phone thing. Wondering if in a few years there could be an app.

Coates: Also looking at universal clicker.

Cologna: Should we be really proactive and make a bill?

Coates: Look at survey results. Students don’t know what is best for them. It’s going to save so much money.

Cologna: If they aren’t packaged correctly they get thrown out. It wastes people’s time repackaging it all.

Prata: Should professor be required to give exam dates at beginning of semester? A lot have finals and midterms, but not tests of exams.

Coates: Bruce’s suggestion to work with faculty senate is probably best.

Cologna: Talking about some lady who trains on how to make syllabus.

SOARC

Messineo: First presidents meeting was Monday, went well in my opinion. Still looking at results from breakout sessions. How affective well look at surveys. See if groups found effective, and maybe well do them monthly voluntarily. Next one is October 1st. Rerec is October 7th. Last 2 years did it first Thursday of October. Announcement at presidents meeting too. Student organization fair is 22nd which is next Wednesday Hoping Sam can put it on facebook and twitter. Sent an email but people don’t always check it contact info isn’t updated sometimes. Should we be at student organization fair?

Rodrigues: Signed up for elections

Messineo: Looking at student organization handbook Holzman put together last year. A lot of info got already. Haven’t had committee meeting yet first is Monday 3pm. Cleaned up records and filed stuff. Wonderful vice chair will be deleting crap emails.

MacKinnon: SPO said people at presidents meeting were actually having fun.

Messineo: A lot of responses we got said it doesn’t pertain to us, and then people went to wrong group because of size of group. We had 4 seminars. Had idea to offer same seminars voluntarily and separately. A lot of organizations only sent like 2 people.

Coates: Blog idea

Treasurer

MacKinnon: Paying bills and writing stipend checks next week so make sure you filled out forms.

Coates: And now Bill is athletic advisor

Boiteau: Make sure you do stipend back up thing

Elections

Rodrigues: Booth today, helped stuff mailboxes. Don’t know what turnout was but next to Kid Cudi tickets. Kim and I couldn’t find list so I think janitor took it. Need a few extra copies. 3 booths next week Monday in Hope Tuesday in union Wednesday student organization fair. Adds for declarations out. Be in newspaper tomorrow. Just elections adds left.

Coates: Concerned about recruitment. Numbers are bottomed out. Stuffing mailboxes will help. Other thought email deans of every college so they can send listserv. Talk to people you know and try and get them to sign up. People think were secret.

Pezza: Thinking about getting people to run, talking to other groups? I think talking to somebody face to face is better.

Coates: Take an election booth to the quad one day?

Jorge: Have to talk to Kim.

Coates: Well we have to book the quad with the quad master also.

Messineo: Last day to declare?

Rodrigues: 24th

DOC

Pezza: I don’t know how booths are running

Prata: Get Chris Knight in the panda suit on the quad.

Coates: Make sure IFC makes announcements

Secretary

Segal: I have nothing to say.

Vice President

Prata: Committee attendance sheets, that I want back every week. Mentioning more at meeting senate scholarship again. 4 or 5 people. Retreat the 26th at 11 am meeting senate office 1:30. Retreat waivers in office fill out beforehand. This week meeting at our house. Kicking 4 people off senate. Because of 3 unexcused absences.

Coates: Remind people where excuse forms are in office

B Stewart: Seen article in Pro Jo and read it. Makes us look good. Went to Narragansett town police station to get records from last year. And names from last year because not all were students here. Also stats on this last week. Gave call and left message so going again tomorrow and am going to go 2 times a day. Calling lawyer after I get stats. Sam and I working on press release. Dave do you have past articles? Getting press releases out ASAP Wednesday night.

President

Coates: Tomorrow ride along with police should be interesting. Meeting tomorrow Dooley unveiling recommendation to board of governors for a budget. Hope it’s good. Firm date for student advisory council. Wish I knew what was happening. Talking to Kim wants to update website, one day in next few weeks going to set a date and we’re going to sit in office and talk about website. Ask for everyone on senate who wants to be involved. Want ESPN style poll that we can change daily. Not sure what day everyone is free, busy week and next week. So in October on ballot there is something about URI chemistry building. Old building. First 2 floors general chemistry. Safety issues need new building.

Coates: Job creation. Talk to them about it committee put it together. Looking for people to run and promote voter registration drive. Diversity week. Senate event forum where groups have moderated discussion about problems. First senate diversity week event. Important and groups are excited. They understand and want to work with us but are afraid. HUGE DEAL.be sensitive. 5 mins with senators waiting til we have senators. Consider idea need to bring back things weren’t working on right now just issues someone could put support gay marriage bill.
