Vice President Report
- Senate Exec Retreat
o On a Sunday
- Work on the Drop-box idea
o CIO and DOM
President’s Report (read by Hetland)
- Exec needs to confirm office hours
- Committees, please confirm information: members, meeting time, etc
- DOM: Kim needs a photo for the bio
- Promote the Scholarship
- Co-sponsorship idea
o Increase football game viewers
- For the next 4 home football games, whatever student group brings the most amount of people to the game will get $500 from URI Foundation, $500 in Senate Co-sponsorship, and $500 from Athletics
- By-Laws committee
o Need 2 new members
- One new Senate member and one current
SOARC Report
- By the end of October Bruce will have recognized all the academic clubs on campus.
- Next Wednesday a By-Laws Bill will be introduced to get rid of the recommendation from SOARC for Funded/Unfunded.
o In the By-Laws, it will state that SOARC will recognize a group as Funded/Unfunded etc
o Changed the wording on it: the words “full budget”, “contingency” and “budget line” were removed and that is all that was done
o Wrote an updated version of the bill because the old one was not approved by Sam.
- Said it was unclear of what’s qualified as Funded/Unfunded
- Didn’t understand the distinction between what’s Funded/Unfunded and what it takes to be recognized as a particular sector
o Will meet with Sam or email him before Thursday to make sure the new version is acceptable
o The final bill needs to be done and on the floor before Re-rec
- If it’s good we can vote in on, and if still needs work we can vote it down
External
- Forum is Wednesday, 5-7 so send questions if you have them
o Will be taped and can send it out to news media if we want
o Attendance looks promising; may have a booked auditorium
DOC:
- DOM I need the posters
- Got a lot of re-tweets yesterday for Elections
- I have a list of things already for the October Newsletter
- Plan on updating the board once new senators are voted in
Academic:
- Meeting with various people regarding complaints, etc
- Question 4
o Want a considerate effort on Senate’s behalf to campaign for this
o Need to educate Senate about what this vote actually means
o Encourage students to go to polls and vote
o Doesn’t feel Academic should or can tackle this on their own so need Exec to work together
o Ideas for Campaigning:
- Can reach out to engineering fraternities
- Do an Opinion Bill
- Contact Kyle Weinreich who is working for one of the two people running for governor
- Team up with Friends for Question 4, others, or campaign on our own
DOM
- Everything people requested is all done
- Working on a project for External
Campus Report
- Sent out emails about Safety and Lighting and I have only heard from a couple of people
- Met with Zipcar today
- Meeting with Dining Services and Facilities because the facilities have been slacking and to touch base on Butterfield
- Waiting on campus architect regarding biking situation
- Need to deal with Butterfield Thanksgiving Situation
o
Finance Report
- Went over with Bruce and it seems all the sports and fitness clubs will have to book space off of campus
o Wrestling has a $3000 bill coming up
o Fitness club and MMA will most likely have bills following
o Will end up being a lot of money
o Hetland will appeal to NCAA Advisory Board
- SOLC
o Don’t know what’s going to happen as SOLC grows because as of last year they spend $5000 for each of their trainings
- Only group that has two overnights per year
o Want to split SOLC outside of the Senate Accounts to avoid spending marketing dollars for retreats
- Changes this will make: Will no longer need to get a signature from Treasurer, Finance Chair and President
- This means they can process their own paperwork on time
- Will take time for Accounts to move this over but once down it will be set forever
- This spring when they did budgeting for our line they didn’t come to us at all so the Treasurer had to think about how much SOLC spends
- No need for these inconsistencies
o Possibly connect SOLC training to the leadership class offered for leadership majors/minors
- Don’t fund academic organizations
- Don’t do this because a lot of times groups will use the money for academic classes, which could instead be funded by the academic college
o Most likely will be something SOARC deals with instead of Finance
- Request from CVSA
o 5k for Soles
- Money raised is by the number of miles walked
- Free to do the 5k, money is made based on miles walked
o Just need to provide funds for the tracking
o Need to have the entire workings of a 5k figured out
- See Sheri
- Want Senate to increase the basic resources we can provide to student groups
o Easels, boards, etc
o Currently all we provide is a camera
- Electronics from Groups
o Musicians Guild and EMA are going to apply together for a computer
o Cigar has a lot of equipment they want to dispose of
- Will develop a protocol for how to get rid of it
o This also means these groups will be asking us for new computers
- Yearbook and Cigar need new technology; current computers don’t work efficiently and need the custom equipment
- Yearbook currently has no members though so this issue needs to be resolved
- Need to complete the yearbook for this year; students already paid
o Once taken care of, decide what to do with the Yearbook Club
- Yip plans on tackling this issue/taking over
Treasurer Report
- Stipends are in
CIO
- Fixed the reports
- Will work on electronic posting of the Senate scholarship
- Bios of Senate members
o Plan on plugging in a 2-3 sentence bio for every Senate member on the website under each committee
o Basic information of where each member is from, major, Senate position, etc
- Ventful
o Will be an intermediary between Ventful and whatever they need
