COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:
• Performance Based Funding Act- Based on performance, take away from the university and up tuition. Eleven States have repealed. The president is backing the bill. No student point of view as of yet. Senate may not be able to change the Act because of president’s support. What are high wage high demand degrees? Bill is for full time students. In effect 2018. Affects URI, RIC, CCRI. Website = “Performance based funding for higher education.” First state to have this Act- EST.1979 – States=29 There were problems however now the government has revised it.
• Magnets – 1000 for $375.75. 4X6. IDEA- For distribution- Set out Tables to the lots- Plains and Fine Arts. Setting out flyers now. University lawyer. Student rights. Flyers to RA board on Monday Distribute to Slums and Freshman doors. THEME- Student rights- Senate Lawyer. Lease must be on door. Quiet hours10pm-5am while students are living in Narragansett; is this targeting the students?
• Committee Member Complaint- Pay security deposit, realtor notice, came in late march, then wished to inspect house, did not go, owner and landlord are coming over to look at damages. May have to fix. Screen door has lock but they have no key. The door handle is missing. Realtor “Leyla D” sent Handyman to fix screen door and a roommate kicked him out. WIFI is not working. Accusing them of smoking. Wish them to pay for all of this. Realtor says she will be coming around a lot to check on the property. Need lease for research and fine combing of the rules and regulations.
