COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

 

Gay Straight Alliance

o   National Coming Out Day is October 11, 2012

o   Halloween Dance Party is October 26th

  • Space and Time is already booked
  • ii.Working with Uhuru SASA and LASA
  • iii.Less expensive than the Break the Silence Dance since payment will mostly be for the DJ and fewer decorations.

 

 

Student Organizations Leadership Consultants

o   No longer a student senate recognized group

  • Not a budget but they still get money through us with an administration budget line item

o   Budgeted $1200 per year

  • They also get money for the Leadership Center
  • W: treated as a campus service like Readership Program

o   No formal agreement on payment

  • ii.Petty Cash

o   They wanted reimbursement for some snacks that provide at retreats

  • Stewart: do they get some money from the groups, nope.
  • Senate didn’t get money for their retreat
  • iii.Should we only fund them for retreats with Student Senate recognized groups?

o   W: the retreats are quite inexpensive, for example the senate one cost no money

o   Incentives to being a senate recognized groups is getting free retreats

o   The IEP house and International House should be contributing money into the funds for the retreat

  • iv.Questions to SOLC:

o   How many retreats have been done with non-senate recognized groups?

  • W: If not too many, then give them the $15 dollars.

  • Questions:
  • What are the plans for the year?
  • Debt Collection plans

o   M: If you have that contract, you are owed that money.

o   Stewart: Do you think they will collect $25k?

  • What are your goals?
  • How are the Staff paid?

o   Paid staff needs to do 2 stories a week.

  • If they do less than 2 a week, they will get cut.
  • Writers are $75/month for 2/week

o   Editors get paid $25 a night

o   Production managers are $25 a night

o   Susan gets paid $46k for compositing the paper

 

 

  • Difficult since she’s got a contract
  • How are the Staff evaluated?

o   Copy editors check the articles, if there are no quotes or anything, then it will not be published.

o   The quality & quantity will not be rewarded

  • How will you enhance readership and remain relevant?

o   With fewer publishing days, the quality can improve

  • How will you improve the newspaper quality?

o   Keep the quality the same or better even though moving to 3 days

  • What will be done to streamline the business?
  • Trial to reduce the run dates to 3 days instead of 4 days a week.

o   W: when the production for less days, the revenue will be less

  • S: it won’t really change the revenue much since advertisers are still buying at a budget

o   Evaluate by

  • Checking the number of copies taken
  • Ad revenue
  • Cut Costs

o   Count the number of unread papers

o   Work with the publisher to print less copies

o   Budget

  • Provided 22,000 for stipends and $4,000 in production
  • iBeing in the red $25 thousand by the end of last fiscal year

o   We want to see you improve and be a good group.

o   If we completely wipe out the debt, then there’s no incentive to improve

o   Steve Boytow two years back reduced the stipend money in hopes that the ad revenue would replace the stipends

o   Staff weren’t involved in the last year

  • No idea what happened to the budget and the business.
  • iPeople were calling and asking about unpaid stipends

o   Schedule a meeting for the end of the semester to evaluate.

o   Committee Agrees to roll over debt to this year. 4-1-0

 

Meeting for the week of Columbus Day?

o   Stewart: I have like no time.

o   We’re completely fine with moving to another time in the week.

o   Wednesday at 5:30pm

  • Bills that pass will need to be additions to the agenda since it’s after the agenda deadline.
  • ii.If no groups show up by noon on Wednesday, the meeting will be cancelled

 

High Fives for Habitat for Humanity

o   Trying to break the world record for high fives to a mascot

o   Fundraiser is completely separate

  • The high fives from mascot is for raising awareness

o   Most of the money was raised to sponsor Guinness to come by

  • More work and verification

o   Need the money for run off tags to verify the number of people going through the line

About $0.48 per tag

o   ATR Treehouse

  • Keeney Gym – let use by the basketball coach
  • Filming the event and gaining recognition.

o   We need to get quotes for prices – Bring it in before tonight’s presidents’ meeting

  • Committee of 3 will vote at the president’s meeting

o   Originally going to get money through Habitat to get co-sponsorship money from senate but was denied

o   Committee feels good about it 4-0-1
