I. The Cigar

III. URI Dressage

  • No representative
  • Requesting loan to pay for instructor and the horses
  • Note: we do not own horses because the cost of maintenance for an entire year would be very high
  • Requesting $7,830 now, which will be paid back in full in March
  • They pay for their instructor and horses monthly
  • The finance handbook states “Your loan may be called due at anytime with one-week notice with a 2/3 approval of the Finance Committee if finance policy has been violated or fiscal irresponsibility is shown”

IV. Uhuru Sasa

  • Requesting money for their yearly Kwanzaa ball
  • Cultural, diverse, elegant
  • Goal: to get together and speak on Kwanzaa. Other organizations will come and represent the candles of Kwanzaa. There will also be entertainment, music and good to appreciate the arts
  • Goal: to have a culturally diverse and elegant event to educate people of background and values of Kwanzaa and why it’s a ‘movement’ and to provide a passionate speaker with the intention of motivating others
  • Event will be in December
  • Expected attendance: 90 people
  • Last year’s turnout
  • 8 people attended
  • Charged admission – $20/couple
  • Solution for this year: free and better advertisement, hopeful senate involvement, and open to a wider range of people on campus

  • Dining services food $1750-2000
  • DJ $400
  • Videography/photography $150
  • Decorations $350
  • Entertainment/speaker $100
  • Total $2750-3000
  • What is Kwanzaa? What is purpose of food?
  • Celebration of unity between African Americans in America
  • Expected attendance: 90 people
  • Type of food – “soul good” – western BBQ buffet provided by dining services

o   This does not align with what Kwanzaa represents

o   The food should be ethnic

o   Dinner must be a crucial part of the event in order to be necessary
