COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

  • League of Legends Club
    • Looking to get a LAN hub so that multiple people can play a game at once. There is a limit of 7 people at the moment. Without these hubs the community that they have developed cannot play at the same time and work together. With the new hubs they will be able to operate with 40 to 50 people.
    • They are asking for LAN hubs, and Ethernet cords in order to access the internet on campus.
    • Total amount would be $220 but shipping included surge protectors which they are not including in this contingency grant.
    • They have been looking for outside funds for the event such as donations at their gaming events and hoping to do fundraising.

Total: $220.00                                                                                    Approved (7-0-2)

  • SAGE
  • Plans on hosting a band based out of Syracuse which focuses on Latin and multicultural heritage. The band will be hosting a work shop as well which focuses on lyric writing and social justice.
  • $1,500 for travel and lodging. Will not be charging admission at the event.
  • Will be open to just URI student to benefit the campus. They are working with other groups to spread the word on the event and predicting around 75-100 people. They will be advertising through other groups and flyers around campus.

  • Persian Students Association
    • Hosting an event next week, 12-11, for the winter solstices. Will be in the multicultural center. Expecting 50-60. Hoping musicians from RISDI will attend but if not it will be the event will be an event to celebrate the season. They are looking for $500 in total, $480 for URI catering and $20 for decorations.
    • Free to enter for all

Total: $500                                                                                         Approved (7-0-1)

  • Dressage
    • This group does competition with different schools from New England
    • The board and lease for horses is about $700 per month, changes per month due to women who runs the barn.
    • The budget that they had did not expect the large amount of new members to join and it no longer can sustain for the rest of the year. They are fundraising as much as they can and expect more income internally for the Spring semester but they cannot afford the board for the horses over winter break. There will be riders who come and use the horses over break.
    • The barn that they are currently station does not do written contracts so the owner has no agreement with the team. So the owner is holding them responsible for the $4,200 that is required for any of winter break and the spring semester. The owner expects the team to pay for the full year including the winter break if the team does not pay there may not be further relations in the future. She expects the team to lease all of their horses over the winter instead of what the team would prefer which is one or two horses but she was not compliant towards this and is refusing to reach an agreement with the team.
    • Regardless of what the outcome is, the organization will be able to survive through the spring semester. They are constantly fundraising and will continue to over winter break.

Total: $4,200                                                                                      Approved (5-2-0)

  • Ghost Hunting
    • Check Reimbursement for their website. The subscription was $83 and reimbursement will only cover $50 of the expenses.
