Minutes:

Gaming Club: received second contingency grant

URI Dressage Lucy President:

  • Convention and Registration Account → Operational costs (transfer $500)
    • Couldn’t go to previously enrolled event b/c of snow was in ME
  • Need for end of the year bills, already have the money in their budget it is just in the wrong category
    • Paying for horses specifically is what they want the money for
  • Decision: (5-0-1)

URI Uhuru SaSa Future President:

  • SASA Fashion Show
    • April 28th, 2018
    • Rams Den
  • Host Desi Banks→ have him come but he is out of their budget
    • Enjoys his comedy
    • Very popular with SASA’s group
    • Had just visited Bentley
  • Previously for event
    • Sold out in past
    • Hosting fee they have is $600
  • Vutech: question “how much total would it be?
    • Roughly $2305
  • Keene: “sold out last couple years could you add more people?”
    • Yes but would need to aid security
  • Vutech: “Have you already sold tickets? Would you consider raising prices of tickets”
    • Definitely would consider this because we have not sold tickets yet
  • Strassfield: “Did you pick out that flight or did he?:
    • They picked out flight and he is coming from ATL
  • Vutech: “How many tickets do you sell?”
    • However many rams den can hold without tables / chairs; also VIP room that is $30 that is private with host and includes food and pictures
  • Keene: “how much do you usually charge?
    • URI = $10
    • NON URI = $20
    • VIP =$30
  • Schenderight= “who have you had host in the past?”
    • Capri; we wanted more knowledgeable people but out of budget
  • King: “if you did this you would not be getting any of the money technically back

URI Fencing Kevin President

  • Fencing Nationals down in Knoxville, TN
    • 24 people
    • 2 15 ppl bus / $750 each
    • Hotel = $133 / night → 2 nights total ⇒ $1600
      • 6 rooms
    • Total Cost of Event: $3108
  • Asking Senate for total amount of $647.50 for travel and & lodging ; line 700
  • Strassfield: “Is everyone in the bus URI students”
    • Yes all students, 2 parents, one coach, gear
  • Keene: “Astronomically low; great work”
  • Vutech: “When is the competition?”
    • Next Saturday, April 7
  • Decision: (6-0-0) → approved

 

SOLC Rachel

  • Conference Association for Experiential Education (AEE) in NE Region, in Becket MA
    • Have gone in the past
    • Dates:
  • Asking for to $1067.50 get 7 students to conference
    • $112.50 for registration
      • 7 people = $787.50
      • 5 people = $562.50
    • $40 per person for lodging
      • 7 people = $280
      • 5 people = $200
    • Full lodging is $225 + lodging $80
    • But b/c they are only allowed to bring 5 individuals : $762.50 is all we can give them
      • For lodging and registration
    • Strassfield: “How many times has SOLC gone to this conference?”
      • Third year
    • King: “Are any of them seniors”
      • No, none are seniors
        • 3 juniors
      • Decision: (6-0-0) → approved

Musicians Guild President:

  • Need to unfreeze budget
  • Musicians guild
    • Book artists / bands locally
  • Budget frozen b/c
    • Change in president
    • Previous president not given info about presidents meeting
    • Most recent why b/c contract late b/c who they wanted to hire handed them in
    • Has musicians that need to be paid
  • Whats going to change to prevent this from happening again
    • Lots of learning needs to happen
    • 2 week guideline; tell musicians everyday its off of 2 weeks a week befre then we have to cut x amount from agreed price
      • Go as far to cancel act
    • A lot more assertive with policies
  • Fault on them (Musicians Guild)
  • Decision: (6-0-0) → budget unfrozen

URI Ballroom Dancing Club

  • Usually 2 instructors to teach : Tim & Randy
    • Tim local
    • Randy professional– ‘Dancing Feeling’
    • Have not been able to pay both so last year cut Randy
  • OG budget $2,400
    • This year given $2,900 (didn’t need a lot of it)
    • b/c cut Randy only needed $1,200
    • Tim being paid $25/hr
      • Want to pay Tim more b/c he’s only teacher
    • Next Year’s Budget want to increase “instruction line”
      • $500 more for whole year
        • 250 extra each semester
      • Go from $25 / hr → $30/hr
        • New total would be about $1700
      • Vutech: “Has he approached you about ending to be paid more?”
        • Group thinks he has been underpaid
      • King: “What is Tim’s qualification for teaching?”
        • Doesn’t have any professional experience
        • High skilled
        • Competitively trained
      • Vutech: “Does anyone else get extra lessons?”
        • No
      • Keene: “Do members pay dues?”
        • Yes
      • Vutech: “What is TIm’s main job?”
        • Engineering → side work
      • Vutech: I’m opposed just b/c he isn’t asking for it so this is money that could be going to other groups technically
      • Flath: “Do you compete?”
        • Not this year, but have in the past
      • Flath: “How do you get hte money for these competitions?”
        • We use dues for this
      • Schneideright: thought process similar to Vutech; “Do you plan on finding another instructor that is professional?”
        • Don’t need someone with such high credentials b/c many ppl are beginners
        • Cycle of beginners
      • King: “I’m okay with it b/c just someone doesn’t ask for it doesn’t mean they don’t need it or deserve it
      • Flath: “How many active members do you have?”
        • Fluctuate between 20-6
        • Relatively 10 active members
      • Strassfield: I think this is a great idea
        • $20 per class per student
        • $30 community people
      • Vutech: “That money can go to other people; URI student, not asking for more; other teacher higher skill level
      • Keene: “What do your dues go to?” // “Community members”
        • All of dues goes to teachings, which is $20 for whole semester
