COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:
1) Senate – Category Transfer
• Transfer 200 dollars from 109 Office Supplies to 213 Operating Expenses
• To pay for SurveyMonkey

2) Capoiera – Capital Improvement Grant
a. Needs instruments
• Different Instruments
1. Each with different tonal frequencies and sound
• Berimbau
• Pandeiro
• Agogo
• Reco Reco
• Congo Drum
• Akabaki normally cost $500
1. Upon consultation with other professionals, a congo drum is a suitable substitute.
b. Music is a major part of Capoeira to mask Martial Arts as a Cultural Ritual rather than training to fight
• Music is essential since it was used in the past to mask the noises of training
c. Storage will be at the Multicultural Center
• Rep talked with Melvin about a storage space and it was approved
d. The instruments will be inventoried for accountability
e. Since this is late in the semester
• Purchase Requisitions and Order forms need to be submitted
• Shipping may mean that it will come in after the semester ends
1. The President will be around during the summer ot receive and store in the MCC
f. Contingency for Capital Improvements of $911 for Capoeira Club
• Approved 5-0-1
1. Weinreich abstained because he came in late

 

3) Scuba Club – Instruction Costs
a. The Instruction line has been underfunded
• Asking for $2,250
b. The students will not get their cards until after the check is signed and handed over
c. Last time, Scuba asked for $1000 for a category transfer
d. Expectations for next year

• They are going to be funded more appropriately next semester
e. The instruction pricing is normally $250/pupil but because of a volume
f. Set as a programming contingency
• Not enough money in General Contingency
• “It fits as programming since it provides programming in the form of classes”
g. Programming Contingency of $2,250 for Scuba Club
• Approved 6-0-0

 

4) Students for a Sustainable Drug Policy – Hotel Cost for the glassblower
a. Diversity Fund people seemed happy
• They asked for more information than available in time
• The application has not been submitted yet
b. Fax from Holiday Inn
• $255 for 3 nights of hotel
c. Money to pay for a rental car will be required from other sources
• We normally pay for rental cars
• If we pay for 2 nights, then we will also pay for the rental car
• If we pay for 3 nights, then we will not pay for the rental car
d. The artist has agreed to provide another glass item for donation to SSDP for the extra cost
e. Has to go to the Senate Floor
• We will immediately consider the application
f. Alcohol Free Contingency Grant of $255 for SSDP
• Approved 4-2-0
