COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

  • LASA
    • Last week, held during Spanish heritage month
    • Each day a new event a big banquet that invites all members, alumni etc.
    • Needs funding for awards
    • Founding Father Awards: Someone who has helped LASA, advised LASA
    • Outstanding Latino Award – someone who has helped out the Spanish community in Rhode Island
    • A lot of award places outside of Rhode Island are pricey, but Things Remembered is the cheapest
    • Anderson: Awards can’t be funded because the are given out into the community
    • Contingency grand for awards denied
    • LASA is holding another event—the Culture show, food, but they need music. There will be different performances from on and off campus, different groups from different countries will perform. (Cuban, Carribean, etc.). Outside vendors come. DJ needed, total $150. Held in the Ballroom on October 8th.
    • Anderson: Is security needed for the event?

    • Contingency Grant for $150 for DJ for LASA Culture Show
    • Contingency Grant for $375 for DJ for end of LASA Week approved

      • Social Justice Band requested for SAGE
      • Playstation 4 requested for Gaming Club
      • Gas reimbursement for the Quidditch Club
      • Review the new Finance Handbook
      • Cody wants to work with groups closer so that we can help groups reach their financial goals. He also wants to encourage groups to fundraise. He’d like to work with equity and diversity to restore funds and work with MaryJo.
    • Stipend Review
      • Next week Cody will come with a list of stipends to review for all positions
    • SAGE
      • SAGE was approached by band last semester from Syracuse, New York, made up of queer identified women who play social justice songs. They would like to put on a social justice workshop and put on a show after. They play roots and reggae type of music based on social justice
      • They did not get this approved with the SEA Office, so they will be back next Friday
