Discussion:

  • URI Cryptocurrency, is a student based organization, that aims to promote Bitcoin and technology awareness. Their primary focus is on the currency of Bitcoin. The organization currently has roughly ten members, and they meet the Student Senate elections standards. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognition the URI Cryptocurrency club as an unfunded organization.   • Ram Hacks, is a student based organization, that has a focus as a computer interest group. They provide several services such as Service maintain, etc. As well as run several servers throughout the URI community. The organization meets the Student Senate elections standards. They look to work with other student groups, specifically the Sailing Club so they can collect data off the ships. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize Ram Hacks as a funded student organization [9,0,0].
  • AVS [Animal Veterinary Science] Club, is a student based organization, that has a focus on providing knowledge, topics, and helping people with interest in AVS pursue their passion. They plan on putting on events such as guest lectures from Vets. from post graduate schools, and internship awareness. They also travel to Zoos and Aquariums, dog trainers, etc. They also have a strong interest in fundraising, and community outreach to help provide support to local communities. They group currently has 30 members with 200 people on their list serves,  and have held elections to the Student Senate standards. They have open membership to all majors. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize the AVS Club as a unfunded organization. [8,0,1].
  • URI Cycling Club, is a student based organization, that failed to complete re-recognition last year. The organization currently has 45 members, and they have held elections to Student Senate standards. The group was failed to pass re-recognition because of absent leadership last year, so this year they have a heavy focus on rebuilding. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize the URI Cycling Club as a funded organization [9,0,1].
  • Hillel, is a student based organization, that came to repeal their funding status. During re-recognition, Hillel applied as a “Religious” organization, and as is Senate’s policy, we cannot fund religious organizations. Today they came to change their mission to “Cultural,” in order to be able to qualify for funding. The committee found this change acceptable because the organization moves to promote the culture of the religious faith more so than the religion. They also provide open programming, etc. that is open to all faiths. Chairwoman Rode moved to re- recognize Hillel as funded cultural organization. [9,0,0].
  • Collegiate Smile, is student based organization, that came to appeal their funded status. Currently, they are an unfunded organization, and they are looking to become a funded organization. The committee discussed that it was in their best interest to rebrand themselves, and create a new student organization with a new model constitution, that is more reflective of their current missions and goals. The group decided to do that. The committee then voted on the appeal [0,0,9].
  • Surf Club, is a student based organization, who failed to complete re-recognition. The group claimed the fault to be with past leadership. The group however did not meet Student Senate’s elections standards, therefore, they decided to come back in a couple of weeks.
  • Quantitative Finance and Neuroeconomics, is a student based organization, whose goal is to promote a unique cliche in Finance. They are looking to program and build auto traders around stocks, etc. They look to take trips to speakers in the field, and want to promote education in the field. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize the club as an unfunded organization. [9,0,0].
  • Colleges Against Cancer, is a student based organization, that is appealing their funding status. They are currently recognized as unfunded, and wish to funded. The appeal failed [0,0,9].
  • The NAACP, is a student based organization, that came two weeks ago who failed to meet Student Senate elections standards. They have since fixed the issue, and then Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize NAACP as a funded organization. [9,0,0].
  • The committee then began to discuss who should be the Student Senate club of the month. The committee then decided on the Student Action for Sustainability. [9,0,0].
