iScribe

• Former Chair Roy – didn’t want to keep them as R because we may not have money in contingency for them
• Not about how much money they get as budget
• No matter what they will get a lot of money since publishing is expensive
• A very expensive publication
• They have little capacity to fundraise
• Matter of principle
• is the iScribe guaranteed to publish

o   They didn’t publish only 1 year

o   They had difficulty remaining active enough

• Silly to Penalizing them for something that happened 2 years ago
• Worried about setting precedent
• It’ll work for this year to apply for contingency but if not enough money

Passed : 5-1-0

Sit – trivial nay since doesn’t fit under Category S but fits M or R more so than S under the current 2012 bylaws.

 

Snowboarding Club

• Does teach a skill
• Several members are certified teachers
• They’re not paid because they are students
• Pishadian – I will not vote for anything but Category S
• Rental equipment isn’t the only cost – Rental + lift ticket
• Instruction can’t happen without equipment
• Roy, Kim, Bruce, do not remember a time that Snowboard and Ski Club was not a S
• Precedent, they were Category S
• If they aren’t utilizing their budget for instruction, they aren’t Category S
• If they provide benefits outside the group they are also Category S
• Says instructional not instructor
• The arguments are mostly technicalities
• The bylaws may contradict themselves
• Kyle Weinreich, “I was wrong; you will only hear this once”

5. Category discussion

• Look over the categories and find contradictions
• Consolidate the Bylaws and Finance Handbook and Student Organizations Handbook on all issues relating to the organization’s category
