Discussion:
- Running Club, is a student based organization, with a focus on running. They are an open membership organization, however they did not meet Student Senate election standards. They will return in a couple of weeks.
- Billiards Club, is a student based organization, with a focus on billiards, also known as pool. They aim to work with the Memorial Union building to help maintain and promote the sport of billiards. They plan on meeting twice a month, they teach players how to play/ proper form, and again maintain the pool hall. They eventually look to compete with other schools competitively. They look to start a program called “Blue and cues,” which is when local officers play billiards with the students. It’s a great fun way to help students meet the officers here on campus. They held elections to Student Senate standards. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize the Billiards Club as a funded student organization. [10,0,0].
- URI SAGE, is a student based organization, which standards for Students Advancement for Gender Equality. They are a group that currently has 15 members and they focus on promoting gender equality and discussing current issues in the field. They aim to put on programming and work closely the URI’s Women’s Center (they do not receive funding from them). Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize URI SAGE as a funded organization [10,0,0].
- WOWW, is a student based organization, which stands for We’re Offering Women Wisdom. They are a student group that focuses on mentoring. To target freshmen and establish not only a sense of, but an actual community where upperclassmen peers will provide a constant, non-judging community to incoming first year students in hopes of mentoring them in a way which provides a cycle of organizational transition of mentee to mentor. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize WOWW as an unfunded organization [10,0,0].
- Big Thinkers, is a student based organization, that focuses on tackling the big issues of the world. They aim to help their members be positive agents for change. They currently hold elections to Senate’s standards. Chairwoman Rode moved to recognize Big Thinkers as a funded organization [10,0,0].
- The Salsa Club, is a student based organization that focuses on teaching interested students in Salsa and Bachata as well someone of the history, music, and cultural relevance of each. They currently have seen an explosive growth in membership, with 70 members. They currently did not hold elections to Student Senate standards. They focus heavily on New York styled Salsa, which varies dramatically.
- Chairwoman Rode announced that committee meetings next year will be on Monday’s at 3pm, and asked for help with tonights Presidents meeting.
