COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

 

  • The Good 5 Cent Cigar Editor in Chief
    • Friday mornings emailing writers with contact info and stories that reporters agreed on. Make news sheet with every story going on. Reminding reporters on deadlines. Manages budget. 1-11 office hour Wednesdays.
    • Elected by secret ballot by student senate by-laws
    • Without the editor in chief the [paper would not exist and no other committee member would be able to take on the responsibilities unless they would

  • The Good 5 Cent Cigar Staff reporter
    • Assigned 2 stories per week. Required to send out emails and get interviews set up to meet in person with delegates. organize notes in news story form and report back to the Cigar with the story. Meets once a week for an hour as an office hour.

  • The Good 5 Cent Cigar Managing Editor
    • Second in command to editor and chief. Reports to editor in chief on how the staff if working. Manages discipline inside of the Cigar. Adds to the story list and edits the list along with photos pertaining the the stories. Writes a story in the Cigar like RhodyScopes. Wednesday gets into the office at 1 to put together the paper and finishes at 10:30 or 11 pm. Checks in with each section to make sure the stories are written for the paper. Contacts the staff editors and vice versa to make sure that the stories are ethically written. Makes sure all papers are written in an unbiased manner. Manages articles which go into the paper.

  • The Good 5 Cent Cigar Production manager
    • 1 of two positions. Print and web production. Creates the entire layout of the paper. There would not be a good quality paper without these positions. Compiles PDF of each story and sits down with editor in chief and creates the format and compile the paper. Without the position the paper would not be formatted or have the 1 extra story per week. The position is very specific and it would be extremely overwhelming for any other member of the cigar to take on these responsibilities. Spend between 5-6 hours per week fulfilling the job responsibilities. Manages that the online aspect of the cigar and web exclusives are accurate and reflects the paper so that the online community can read the paper.

  • WRIU RADIO STATION ENGINEER
    • Fix and order any technical equipment. Souder wires if things are broken. Makes sure that the computer systems and equipment is functioning properly. No required hours but checks up in the office through the week. Manages the equipment and in cases of tragedy, finds out if the equipment can be fixed or ordered. Without proper maintenance to the problems in the studio, WRIU would be wasting the money in continuously buying of the new equipment.
