COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

1)Ramblings

  • A new student run magazine
  • A Weekly or a Monthly
  • More content than the Cigar per issue
  • Closely resembles another news outlet – the Cigar
  • More of a magazine style than a newspaper
  • Depends on Content
  • Needs to show how it is different
  • Currently online only
  • First result on Google for URI Ramblings
  • Hosted as a WordPress blog
  • Membership currently has 15 members but next year, it needs to remain or increase
  • For groups like these, we need higher numbers
  • for next semester
  • Submit readership levels
  • Bring in samples of the magazine
  • Could work with the Cigar
  • The Cigar’s distribution network is great

o   Could slip the magazine into the Cigar as an addition

  • The mission statement says that Ramblings is a “Forum”
  • Needs to include the mission of creating a print/digital magazine

2)Rerecognition

  • Manually readmit all the groups
  • Usually takes several weeks
  • Finished by the end of October
  • Under Pishdadian, groups that were registered from the beginning of the year to the beginning of Rerecognition do not need to be Rerecognized

3)Schedules

  • Send schedules and availabilities for Mondays and Tuesdays for next semester

4)Next Year

  • Changes
  • How we do President’s Meetings
  • Current: Lecture style with announcements and things
  • New: Multiple Roundtable discussions

 

 

  • President’s Meetings should be a forum to speak and integrate the groups together
  • President messages
  • Work with Sarah Moffit
  • Create a FB group for the Presidents as a collective forum
  • Announcements can be made there instead of at Presidents meetings
  • If you have suggestions for changing SOARC, then submit them so that everything can be reviewed

5)Bylaws and the Changing

  • Changing the bylaws under Erica Pishdadian for this semester means we only have a very limited time.
  • We will return to these issues under Chair Weinreich
  1. Give SOARC power to do something
  • Current bylaw writings give SOARC two options: Nothing or Everything

6)Next Senate Meeting

  • 6 groups all at once looking for recognition
