Carpool Permit

URI offers carpool permits with priority parking spaces to students who commute to campus with three (3) or more individuals in their vehicle. Carpool members benefit from saving money, access to priority parking areas, cutting emissions and reducing vehicle wear and tear.

Kingston Campus Eligibility

    • A Minimum of three (3) commuter students must make up a Student Carpool. 
    • The cost of the permit is $300 per year (2024-2025 academic year) divided equally between the carpool members.
    • The Carpool Permit allows parking in Lot 7- Fine Arts North ONLY 
    • Each carpool is issued one permit which is shared.
    • Each carpool member is issued 3 daily (virtual) permits per semester to use during times when schedules conflict. 
    • Virtual daily permits are only valid for the Lot 25 Plains Rd. Commuter lot ONLY.
    • Daily permits are not to be sold, traded, gifted or otherwise offered to an unauthorized user.
    • Each student carpool will need a leader who will be the primary permit holder. The primary holder is TAP’s point of contact and is the student responsible for ANY fines or citations issued.

Process (How to Request/Form a Carpool)

  1.  The carpool leader, requests to form and join carpool online at Student Permits
  2. The carpool leader forms the carpool online and indicates the total number of members. The cost of the carpool permit is divided between all the members. Invited members receive an email with an option to join the carpool.
  3. Once all members have responded to their email, accepting the invitation, TAP will review and approve the carpool group. An email will be sent to the leader and all members indicating the permit is available for payment online. uri.aimsparking.com/
  4. Once the leader and all members have purchased their carpool permit, TAP will issue one virtual permit per carpool for Lot 7- Fine Arts North. All members of the carpool, who drive their vehicles, must have their license plate numbers listed with the permit. Only one of the registered carpool vehicles may park in their permitted lot at a time. Any other carpool members should purchase a one-day pass to park or be subject to citation.
  5. Each member will receive three (3), one-day virtual parking passes per semester, for use should an emergency or scheduling conflict arise. The virtual day passes are valid for Lot 25 only.
  6. Carpool permit parking is available in Lot 7- Fine Arts North ONLY. 

 

RINEC Carpool Eligibility

  •  
  • A Minimum of three (3) commuter students must make up a Student Carpool. 
  • The Carpool Permit allows parking in at the South Street Landing (SSL) Parking Garage ONLY. 
  • This Carpool Permit is NOT valid for the Kingston Campus.  If you plan to come to the Kingston Campus, you will need to purchase a day pass or hourly pass here.
  • Each carpool permit is issued one (1) SSL Garage pass which is shared.
  • SSL Garage passes are not to be sold, traded, gifted or otherwise offered to an unauthorized user.
  • Lost or stolen SSL garage passes must be reported to TAP immediately. There is a $50 fee for any SSL Garage pass that is not returned to TAP at the end of every semester.
  • Each student carpool will need a leader who will be the primary permit holder. The primary holder is TAP’s point of contact and is the student responsible for ANY fines or citations issued.

        4. Once the leader and all members have entered their vehicle information, TAP will issue one (1) virtual carpool permit and one (1) SSL Garage Pass for the South Street Landing Garage. All members of the carpool, who drive their vehicles, must have their license plate numbers listed with the carpool permit. Only one of the registered carpool vehicles may park in the SSL Garage at a time.
        5. The leader of the Carpool Permit is responsible to coordinate the pick-up their SSL Garage Pass from TAP.
