Writing Across URI’s first Faculty Writing Seminar was held in the fall semester of 2017. A group of 14 untenured assistants and lecturers from six different colleges or programs met twice a month to give each other support and suggestions to get writing done. Each member received a workbook titled Writing Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks, which covers ways to make time for writing and to navigate the doubts and obstacles that creep in. Readings and discussions included some in’s and out’s of finding the right journal and handling revisions and rejections. Faculty writers appreciated the accountability factor, as all participants reported on their progress at each meeting, and late in the semester, shared brief drafts.
The faculty writers pictured in the photo made progress with their writing and encourage their colleagues to consider joining the Fall 2018 Faculty Writing Group—details announced later this summer.
