URI Grant Writing Pilot Course

URI faculty and graduate students have asked for support in writing grants to fund their research and creative activities. To address this need, Heather Johnson (Writing Across URI) partnered with Katie McGwin (URI Foundation & Alumni Engagement) to design a self-paced short course on grant writing in Brightspace. Participants will (1) learn about the grant-writing process in a supportive and practicable way, and (2) have their individual drafting process facilitated by a step-by-step guide.

The benefit to you: The short course offers support through the key stages of drafting a grant proposal—developing an idea, crafting a proposal, and accessing resources available at URI. You will receive tailored and constructive feedback on your individual draft. At the end of the course, you will have a basic proposal written that you could use to apply for funding. The course is asynchronous so you can progress through it at your own pace and whenever is convenient for you.

The benefit to us: This is a new course and before it is launched to the URI community, we are seeking feedback from a small pilot group. We estimate that at 3-5 hours per week, the course would take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete (though there’s no deadline). We would do a check-in around mid-April to learn about your experience with the course.

The program will officially launch in May/June.
