Project Title: Assessment of cyanobacteria sampling and quantification methods

Mentors: Linda Green and Elizabeth Herron

Abstract: There are many possible ways for detecting cyanobacteria. The methods tested in my project were the Watershed Watch method, EPA method, and a method that was a combination of the two previous methods. None of the methods showed significant comparability, which may be due to freezing certain samples before filtering when they were meant to be filtered fresh or other human error. Therefore, additional comparisons should be done to determine whether URI Watershed Watch’s current method can effectively record cyanobacteria blooms.
