Shannon Sermini

Biography

I joined URI’s Advising Programs for Student-Athletes (APSA) as a Learning Specialist in September of 2017. I provide individualized instruction and educational support to student-athletes from a variety of teams. I help them with academic skills including organization, time management, study skills, communication, test preparation, problem-solving, writing, accessing and navigating appropriate resources, and general coursework. I understand that student-athletes have the unique responsibility of balancing both athletics and academics simultaneously, and my goal is to give them the strategies and tools to become more confident, capable, motivated, and successful learners.

I work in close collaboration with the APSA Academic Advisors and am one of the student-athlete tutoring program coordinators. As a Tutor Coordinator, I assist with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and day-to-day communications.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies with a minor in English from URI and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Sacred Heart University. I have a passion for education and have had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students of many different ages and backgrounds, specifically focusing on higher education since 2013.
