October 26–December 3, 2026
The Harold (’62) and Mary E. Frank Main Gallery, Fine Arts Center
The URI Department of Art and Art History presents Show Me Your Papers / A ver, ¿y tus papeles?, a touring exhibition born from the immigrant experience. Curated by Eddy A. López and Miguel A. Aragón, the exhibition brings together thirteen artists whose works on paper address borders, migration, and dual identity through print media.
Every day, hundreds of thousands of people cross borders. At these crossings, governments require documents to verify migration status and determine who may enter. For migrants without papers, a seemingly routine request for identification becomes an impossible interrogation—one that can force individuals to risk their lives to avoid verification. Having papers becomes a matter of life or death.
Through their work, the exhibiting artists consider the personal and political consequences of these systems, bringing individual experiences into conversations about movement, identity, and belonging.
