Academic Program Review takes place every six years and gives departments a structured opportunity to reflect on their work, evaluate program effectiveness, and plan strategically for the future. Student learning outcomes assessment is a central component of APR.

What APR involves
1. Reflect on program quality and impact
APR examines key aspects of a program — including student outcomes, faculty work, curriculum, and strategic direction. It is both a celebratory and improvement-focused process, giving departments space to highlight accomplishments and identify priorities and needs.
2. Present evidence of student learning
Programs are expected to present assessment data at the program level — showing what students are learning, where strengths exist, and where gaps have been identified. Your prior assessment reports feed directly into this component.
3. Document patterns and improvements
APR asks programs to identify patterns of strengths and/or needs over time and to show how assessment findings have been used to implement changes that improve student learning — closing the loop at a multi-year scale.
4. Work with Joint Committee on Academic Program Review and Outcomes Assessment (JCAPROA)
The ATL Assessment Office partners with JCAPROA to provide direct support to faculty leaders who submit a new proposal for either a program or certificate.
