The purpose behind this outcome is to promote a culture of recognition around the work instructors do to become better teachers. As faculty development, we will foster programs which enable instructors to show the benefits to students and the institution of the work they do to improve their teaching. Also, we want to ensure that instructors of all classifications are able to craft a satisfying career.
Being able to tell their story helps instructors cast themselves as heroes in their own tenure and promotion narrative: they will identify their quest for the year; figure out ways to overcome obstacles; and relate their growth in a compelling way. Hopefully this outcome – and the programs which spring from it – will form the basis of all we do as instructors will chart their course and identify programs which will help them get where they want to go.
