Biography

Lydia recently graduated with a Ph.D. in the Transcultural German Studies program at the University of Arizona and was the Assistant Language Program Director of the their Department of German Studies from Fall 2016 until Spring 2018. She received her I. Staatsexamen from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, her MA in German Studies from the University of Arizona and did her II. Staatsexamen (Teacher Training Certificate) in Berlin. In addition to her studies in Berlin and Tucson, Lydia has attended the University of Education in Karlsruhe and the University of Leipzig, and has served as an instructor in the University of Arizona’s summer study abroad programs in Munich and Leipzig multiple times. Lydia has taught Basic Language courses (GER 101 and 201), the Gateway course GER 300, and a variety of Upper Division courses (including GER 302, 310, 315 and 392) and has served as a Teaching Assistant in GER 160C1. Lydia has received a Minor in Management from the Eller College of Management, which allowed her to redesign the curriculum for the German for Business course GER 315. Lydia’s research interests are focused on contemporary German-Jewish literature, intersectionality, gender and autofiction. She wrote her dissertation on representations of Jewish identity in contemporary German literature.
