Berlin currently is THE PLACE TO BE! So, come and study the German language and culture in one of the most exciting places in the world. There is plenty to do after classes and on the weekends and 24 hours a day are never enough to explore this multicultural melting pot! How about a short tour of activities that are waiting just for you?
Would you enjoy visiting one of the nicest flee market on a Sunday at Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg? Or going shopping in the patios of Hackesche Höfe with its beautiful Art Nouveau architecture, or in the Mall of Berlin next to the futuresque Potsdamer Platz, or at Kurfürstendamm in Charlottenburg, coloquially known as Ku’Damm – one of the most distinguished avenues in Berlin and a famous shopping street, along with Unter den Linden in Mitte. If you feel like relaxing in a bar or one of the numerous international cafés or restaurants visit the Simon-Dach Quarter in Friedrichshain.
One of the hottest party spots is just around the corner, the RAW party zone in Revaler Straße, a former train repair station founded in 1867, and now home of art markets, exhibitions, pubs, clubs and the legendary “Haubentaucher” – an urban pool and sundeck. And of course, there are DÖNER and CURRYWURST almost everywhere and 24/7! Best places to go are “Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebab” at Mehringdamm in Kreuzberg and “Konnopke’s” under the U-Bahn viaduct Eberswalder Straße – they have been there since 1960! But plan in some waiting time as you will not be the only one! The “Klunkerkranich” is a hot spot to dine and party 24 hours on a roof top in Neukölln – breathtaking view over the city included, of course. If you have ever wanted to dance on the riverside of Berlin, visit the “Club der Visionäre” in Treptow. No need to wait until the evening, you can go dance there all day long too!
You think that’s too hot? No problem. Just go a bit further to the “Badeschiff” and enjoy a cool swim in a pool in the middle of the river Spree and relax on its sandy beach afterwards. Yes, there are quite a number of beautiful city beaches along the river Spree, but you could also go to a typical Biergarten instead! If you prefer some much bigger waters take the S-Bahn and travel to one of the many lakes that are around Berlin, for example the Müggelsee in the east or the Wannsee in the west – you decide which direction to take! Either way you can take a tour on a steamer boat or go sailing, surfing, or stand paddle boarding.
If you have enough of all the food, dancing, shopping and swimming let’s now get to the history of Berlin and return to Mitte. There you should visit the Brandenburger Tor and, right next to it, the Holocaust Memorial created by New York architect Peter Eisenmann – an absolute MUST visit when in Berlin! You should not miss Checkpoint Charlie and the East Side Gallery either! They are important references to the city devided from 1961 to 1989.
Interested in technology and hands-on experiments? Then you should visit the Technikmuseum in Kreuzberg with the Technoversum and the Science Center Spectrum. Or would you like to know more about the ancient Greeks or the Egyptian Pharaos? Then you should not miss the Museum Island in the heart of Downtown – a World Cultural Heritage place.
There is so much more to see and explore – the list would be endless… So come and see for yourself!
