Sarah O’Sullivan a graduate student in the College of the Environment and Life Sciences was showcased in the Amazon series ‘The College Tour’.
The program, “The College Tour,” from Emmy-nominated producers Alex Boylan, Lisa Hennessy and Burton Roberts, gives prospective college students an opportunity to virtually “tour” select colleges and universities across the country to gain an insider’s perspective shared by their students, faculty and alumni. URI is one of nine schools to be featured in the series’ second season.
O’Sullivan spoke about the importance of hand-on learning experiences she had while earning her undergraduate degree–a B.S. in Marine Biology–at URI. She described the many experiential learning opportunities she pursued outside of the classroom, tracking sharks of the coast of Rhode Island, California, and Mexico. O’Sullivan participated in a two-week J-term course in Bonair, a small island off the coast of Venezuela, SCUBA diving daily and learning about coral reef conservation. During her internship running the public outreach programs at the Wetlands Institute, she discovered a love for environmental education. “I believe that education and public outreach are some of the most important things we can do to protect our oceans and give the public a greater understanding of marine life,” she said.
O’Sullivan is working on her Masters of Environmental Science and Management (MESM) in the Environmental Communication track.
