Career Journey
I have always known I wanted to help people achieve the best version of themselves, but I never knew the path I wanted to take! An internship in college as a Victim’s Advocate in the Family Court System led me to a position as a social worker and caseworker for families experiencing mental health and addiction. These were some of the most impactful years of my life, and is where I realized my passion for working with children and families. A few years later, armed with a Master’s Degree in Education, I found myself teaching in elementary and early childhood classrooms. After taking some time to raise my own two children my path led me to URI where I found that working with college students is equally amazing! Today I am proud to work as Assistant Director for Employer Relations at the CCEE, where I bring employers to campus and help them to connect with our talented students from all majors. I love to share my story with students who are not sure where their career journey will take them, as each unexpected step for me has been a vital stage in learning about myself and about life!
When not supporting career and experiential education at URI, you will find me: Watching high school sports (Go Chariho Chargers!) or taking care of my animals. My favorite place to be is at home on my porch with my family or on the beach with a good friend and a good book.
What Strength, Value, or Personality trait do you identify with most and why? I am a Developer through and through. I work hard & expect productivity both from myself and from others. I gain satisfaction from evidence of progress, so I always look for signs of improvement-no matter how small. This helps me remember that the “glass is half full” even when the tasks seem daunting!
