Psychology Professor Nicole Weiss ranked among top 1 percent in trauma disorders by Expertscape
Psychology Professor Nicole Weiss has been recognized among the top experts in the world in trauma and stressor related disorders after being named a “world expert in one or more medical topics” by Expertscape, an online database of the top researchers and health experts around the world.
Dr. Weiss is now ranked among the top 1 percent of experts in her field worldwide. The recognition is objectively arrived at using the latest 10 years of NIH’s PubMed database and Expertscape’s methodology to rank researchers. To be considered an Expertscape Expert, the researcher needs to be among the top 1 percent worldwide in research and publications in their specific medical topic.
“To be ranked among the top experts in the world is a rather significant achievement. Our rankings have become widely recognized and respected in medical and scientific communities worldwide because the objective results are based on peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals,” Expertscape noted in its announcement of Dr. Weiss’ award.
Dr. Weiss is an assistant professor of psychology for the College, and director of the Study of Trauma, Risk-taking, Emotions, and Stress Symptoms (STRESS) Lab. Her funded studies include an examination of the role of emotion dysregulation in the daily associations between post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms and both substance use and HIV/sexual risk; a culturally-grounded, trauma-informed alcohol intervention with a reserve-dwelling First Nation community; an examination into the co-occurrence of PTSD and opioid use; and an exploration of emotion dysregulation as a predictor of return to substance use following residential substance use disorder treatment among inpatients with and without PTSD.
The Expertscape recognition is just the latest in a string of several early career awards for Dr. Weiss, including a Rising Star Award from the Association for Psychological Science; Clinical Research Loan Repayment and Early Career Travel Awards from the National Institute on Drug Abuse; and the 2019 University of Rhode Island Early Career Faculty Research and Scholarship Excellence Award in Social Sciences (Highest Research Award for Early Career Faculty in Social Sciences).
