Professor Sue Adams named interim associate dean of College of Health Sciences

Former chair of Human Development and Family Science is licensed psychologist, author, former president of New England Psychological Association

Professor and Chair of the Department of Human Development and Family Science Sue Adams has been named Interim Associate Dean for the College of Health Sciences, Interim Dean Deb Riebe announced. Adams, who has been with URI for 15 years, fills the role formally held by Riebe.

“Dr. Adams brings extensive experience in higher education, outstanding leadership and a unique perspective to the dean’s office,” Riebe said. “We are thrilled to have her join our team as we keep CHS moving forward in a positive direction during this period of interim leadership.”

Adams’ research focuses on the impact of technology and sleep deprivation on the mental and physical health of college students. She is also part of two state-funded teams examining models of workforce development and developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood education and care classrooms.

Adams is a licensed psychologist who provides clinical services to children and families experiencing an array of physical and mental health concerns, as well as author of the book, Family and Community Health: A Developmental Approach. She is also former president of the New England Psychological Association.

“I am thrilled to join Dean Riebe and the CHS administrative team in this new role as Interim Associate Dean,” Adams said. “I look forward to learning more about all of the disciplines and programs in CHS, as well as supporting faculty to move toward their professional goals. I also welcome the opportunity to help shape the future of the college during this important time of change and transition.”
