Dean Gary Liguori urged graduates to embrace the possibilities that come their way before 790 College of Health Sciences graduates crossed the stage in the Ryan Center Saturday, May 19.
“There are possibilities that many of you don’t even know about yet, possibilities that are truly endless,” Liguori said. “You are ready to do big things, and reasy to make the lives of those you touch better.”
Kinesiology and Nutrition double-major Annie Clarkin delivered the student address during the commencement ceremony, reflecting on the bittersweet feeling many graduates experience as they look back on their years at URI and look foward to the opportunities to come.
“Wherever this journey takes you after tonight, I want you to remember in all your big and small moments, in your future endeavors, and in the next 30 years, the importance of what you have learned and how you will continue to use it,” Clarkin said. “In these times of change, and specifically in the area of health, we have been taught that our future is what we make it, and to continue to Think Big. Health encompasses our physical, global, intellectual, mental, emotional, occupational and spiritual well-being. There is no pill to fix the complexity of issues that are currently present and those that will undoubtedly unravel within our society, but as alumni (that’s us) who passionately care about the health and wellness of others, it is important that we continue to think big, that we continue to work together and continue to listen to one another.”
