FAQs

Do students need to find their own internships prior to applying?

No, students do not need to find their own internships prior to applying. In all but one case, all internships are pre-matched and determined, and the department or sponsoring unit will share this information with the student when they extend an offer. In the case where the internship is not pre-matched, the department will help the student find the internship.

Can students receive academic credit for the internship?

Students participating in the internship program may choose whether or not to receive academic credit. The following options are available:

  1. No Credit: Students may complete the internship without receiving academic credit. In this option, the internship will not appear on the student’s transcript.
  2. ITR 400 – Zero Credit Field Experience: Students may enroll in ITR 400 to receive transcript recognition for completing an internship experience, without earning academic credit. Students interested in the zero-credit field experience should email Alicia Vignali Henry to begin the enrollment process.
  3. Directed Study: Students can learn more about this credit-bearing option through the Summer Sessions Office, which can advise on the enrollment process and timeline. Students must have a faculty member agree to oversee a directed study section.
  4. ITR 302/304: Students who wish to earn academic credit for their internship may enroll in the ITR Internship program which includes: ITR 302 (internship field experience for 3-12 credits) and ITR 304 (asynchronous online professional development seminar for 3 credits). Students interested in the ITR Internship Program should email their Career Education Specialist to begin the enrollment process.

Can graduating seniors participate in an internship?

Students who will graduate in May are eligible to participate in the internships but are not eligible to pursue credit. Please note that if seniors want to pursue academic credit, they will need to change their graduation date to a term beyond May.
