Project Title: Use of an intercept campaign to promote safe well water practices in Rhode Island
Mentors: Alyson McCann and Jaimie Holmes
Abstract: Access to safe drinking water is important to everyone; Private well owners are responsible for ensuring the safety of their own drinking water. The Home*A*Syst program offers tools to assist in this overwhelming task, with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of Rhode Island homeowners who regularly test their drinking water. As part of the program includes an intercept campaign at farmers markets and other similar events where people are educated about the importance of regular testing. In addition to education, program evaluations were available and allow for feedback from the public about what they know and wish to learn. From evaluation data and overall feedback, recommendations for the future of this program were developed.
