Victoria CesarioThis project was started back in May when my partner and I fitst started going to farmers markets. I then decided my project would be on PFAS and the areas in the state that know of these chemicals and where they are. Our booth at public events had a table set up about well water inforamtion and on our table we also had cards out about PFAS “The tips for families” and “The tips for infants”. People would either grab the card or they would lookat and we would ask if they knew about it and if they had any concerns. After this was done I made a map of Rhode Island and Pinned all of the locations I was at..
Yuvi CamberoHigh tunnels can offer many benefits to urban agriculture from increased food security and sovereignty, to allowing for increased accessibility to culturally significant crops, increasing the growing season as well as the incomes of the households growing them. The features of the urban high tunnel system that this experiment intends to create will take into account the smaller size, and raised beds (to avoid soil contamination) that urban agriculture requires as well as including rain gardens at the sizes to collect runoff. This was done in four replicates. The performance of the tunnel as compared to outdoor raised beds where evaluated based off of yield and the cash value of the crops which were then analyzed for statistical significance. The averages of both those criteria were found to be higher in the tunnels, however, not all of the data was found to be significant- although it is only one year out of three the study will take place over. Thus, it is possible that these will vary as the research continues. In the future, crops will be screened to determine which crops should be grown in high tunnels based upon high profitability and higher yields when grown in high tunnels than outdoor beds.
