Community-based Opportunities for Research Experience (CORE) Collaborations

Overview

CORE Collaborations is a research group dedicated to providing research opportunities for URI undergraduate and graduate students that are community-based. Dr. Stein works closely with the state agency that oversees mental health and substance-use disorder programs for the state of Rhode Island, The Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, & Hospitals (BHDDH). She has secured two graduate research assistantships and paid undergraduate research positions for research work done on the state’s needs assessment. Dr. Stein has also forged a Memorandum oUnderstanding (MOU) with BHDDH. This MOU provides URI students with the opportunity to participate in a service-learning program working directly with BHDDH and its provider organizations. In addition, she also collaborates closely with several certified community behavioral health centers (CCBHC) and other community behavioral health centers in Rhode Island. While earning course credit, students work as research interns and gain valuable research experience in community organizations and state agencies.
