Changes in Domestic Travel and Social Gatherings

Effective immediately, Saturday, March 28, 2020, in accordance with Executive Order 20-13 of the State of Rhode Island, the following restrictions are in place:

Domestic travel restrictions and quarantine requirements

Any person coming to Rhode Island from another state for a non-work-related purpose must self-quarantine immediately for 14 days. This quarantine restriction does not apply to public health, public safety, or healthcare workers.

In addition, any person who lives in Rhode Island and works in another state who can work from home is required to do so. To the extent such a person cannot perform their functions via telework or other work-from-home arrangements, that person shall self-quarantine when not at work. This quarantine restriction does not apply to public health, public safety, or healthcare workers.

*Students who have no other options than to quarantine on campus should immediately contact Customer Services at Housing and Residential Life. Call 401.874.4151 Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or email after hours at customerservice@housing.uri.edu to make arrangements for safe housing, food, and health services during your quarantine period on campus. For after-hour quarantine emergencies, contact dispatch at the University of Rhode Island Police Department at 401.874.4910.

Social gathering sizes decreased

All gatherings of more than five people in any public or private space such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, large conference room, meeting hall, library, theater, place of worship, parade, fair, festival, park or beach, are prohibited.

Telework

While the University remains open and operational, it continues to follow the State of Rhode Island’s Teleworking Policy. Where telework is a viable work option an employee is required to work from home until at least April 13, 2020, in accordance with Executive Order 20-13. Employees should continue to submit their telework assignments to their supervisor or manager.

Please take steps to protect your health and the health of your coworkers by following guidance on prevention and care. If you feel ill, please stay home.

Caregiver Opportunity

Last week, Gov. Gina Raimondo announced a partnership with Care.com, because many Rhode Islanders – including our frontline workers – are struggling to find childcare. Rhode Island residents can sign up to become caregivers at www.care.com/rigive

Care.com has given Rhode Islanders the ability to volunteer or sign up to be paid. Potential caregivers are subject to Care.com’s extensive background and safety checks. We understand many of our community members are looking for ways to help during the COVID-19 crisis and this is one of many opportunities available to assist those in need.
