CYPHER Participates in Discovering AI @ URI

December 10, 2025 | Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering, URI

On December 10, 2025, members of the CYPHER community had the opportunity to participate in Discovering AI @ URI Day, a campus-wide event hosted by the University of Rhode Island to highlight the diverse and growing use of artificial intelligence in research, teaching, and operations.

The event featured poster presentations, panel discussions, and 20-second video showcases submitted by students, faculty, and staff from across the university. It was an engaging and collaborative day focused on sharing ideas, sparking conversation, and celebrating the many ways AI is being explored and applied at URI.

🔍 CYPHER Contributions

We’re grateful that several CYPHER faculty, staff, and students were able to take part in the event:

  • Students, staff, and faculty submitted 20-second video clips sharing snapshots of their work with AI.
  • A number of students presented posters on AI-related projects they’re pursuing through CYPHER.
  • Professor Hui (Hugo) Lin, CYPHER’s Technical Director, provided valuable support by helping set up and run the event’s sound and video systems.

👥 Panel Participation

  • Professor Yan (Lindsay) Sun, Co-Director of CYPHER, moderated one of the panel discussions.
  • Graduate student Zack Notarianni joined the student panel, offering his perspective on working with AI in research and learning.
  • Chelsie Sullivan, CYPHER Center Coordinator, participated in a panel focused on staff contributions to AI efforts at URI.

We’re thankful to URI’s organizing team for hosting such a thoughtful and inspiring event, and to all those across campus who participated. It was a meaningful opportunity to learn from each other and to reflect on the many ways AI is shaping our shared academic and professional work.
